Land Grab
If there is anyone who has been keeping up with current events, you will know that the lawmakers of South Africa have voted unanimously to take back land from white settlers without compensation. Since this move, many opponents, particularly white South Africans, have cried foul, while others have stated that this move is not good for the South African economy because the people will have to pay for the costs of the move indirectly. Regardless of this, I say this is a move that has been long over-due.
For too long, white South Africans (also known as Afrikaners) have been able to live a life of luxury in the region while the natives of the land have lived in impoverished conditions that most of us would not be able to tolerate. In response to this move, white South Africans have been supported by lawmakers in the west by having them move to the U.S as refugees. This is ironic because was it just not to long ago when Donald Trump referred to African countries as "shitholes"? Why would you allow individuals coming from "shithole" countries into the U.S.? The answer to that can be summed up in two words: White Supremacy.
The reason for this sudden change of heart from the U.S. government is to preserve the survival of white South Africans. They, like other groups are looking out for the best interest of their people. Anyone who is objective should be applauding the black South Africans for this stance since they are only taking back what belonged to them in the first place. There were no white South Africans there previously. Why would you want to fight for something that does not belong to you?
This move is a step in the right direction for South Africa because it is showing the white South Africans as well as the rest of the world that they are a force to be reckoned with. Also, it is showing the black diaspora that empowerment is possible when you are willing to set aside personal agendas and egos for the benefit of the community. Will this move provide unforeseen problems in the short-term? Possibly. In the long-term this will help the region obtain its sovereignty from which they will be able to grow their economy. What South Africa is doing is not out of the ordinary. Every nation has the right to self-govern. As I have always said, Africa must be for the Africans and no one else.
