Principle over Profit
As is well known to all, on Tuesday December 12, 2017 Omarosa Manigault Newman was fired (although she says she resigned) from her White House position. While her official job in the administration remains unclear, reports say that she served as the director of communications for the White House Office of Public Liaison, with an emphasis on reaching out to the Black American community. This is confusing because this description does not reflect the work she has done for the past months, and even though she is no longer working for the Trump administration, she is not going quietly.
In a series of interviews, Omarosa, in an attempt to save her already damaged reputation within the Black community and outside of it, wants us to believe that she planned to serve a one year tenure within the administration, even though she was the highest paid official making an estimated $180,000 per year. Unfortunately, this has not happened, and reports have said that her exit from the position was far from graceful, resulting in her shouting profanities and vulgarities at John Kelly, who was responsible for terminating her employment.
Understanding all that has taken place, Omarosa decided to go against her own best interest and the interest of the Black community at large when she chose to work for Trump. Instead of building a bridge for herself she burned it. Anyone who is objective will tell you that our current President is a racist and sexist individual who is not fit for the presidency. She was well aware of what she was signing up for. Since her termination, she has been on the receiving end of jokes from late night and prime time television.
This is not surprising at all because she had chosen to look the other way when atrocities were being committed against Black people in the United States and abroad. Adding insult to injury, she even defended Trump's anemic response to the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia when he referred to the white supremacist thugs as "very fine people". Anyone with an ounce of morality and dignity would not even entertain the thought of being in the presence of an individual with that type of rhetoric. Regardless, she stayed until her services were no longer needed. Now she wants to say that she was "deeply uncomfortable" about what was occurring in the administration, but you have to ask yourself, Would she be "deeply uncomfortable" with what was going on if she still still had her job?
You can see that Omarosa is nothing but an opportunist who is attempting to capitalize off her employment termination in order to keep herself relevant. The only way we give her power is if we continue to watch her. She does not care for the Black community, regardless of her saying that she wants to do what is in the best interest of "her people". As Black Americans we must ignore her pleas of forgiveness. Instead of taking a moral stand and walking away from an administration that does not have the best interest of Black people in mind, she chose to partake in the Trump circus. This is something that she must live with and we must be selfish and worry about what is in the best interest of our people. The bed is already made for her and now she must lie in it. So, on behalf of the Black community we have a message for Mrs. Omarosa Manigault Newman: Bye, Felicia!
